My birthday is coming up so I’ve decided to have a giveaway! I just realized This may lead to my SecretPal finding out who I am, but oh well… All you have to do is leave a comment with answers to the questions below. Each answer will be counted as one entry into the random drawing, so you have up to 3 chances to win! The deadline is April 23rd at midnight CET (central european time), and the winner will be announced on the 24th. OK, so here are the questions:

1. I’m always on the lookout for fun knitting blogs written by “regular people”. What’s your favorite non-knitting-celebrity blog?

2. I love sock knitting – what’s your favorite sock pattern/yarn combo?

3. What is your favorite brand of sock yarn???

One winner will receive one skein of the incredible Wollmeise superwash sock yarn!! It is a 150g fingering weight superwash skein, so it’s approx 525m (350m/100g), the wool has a silky appearance and a smooth surface. All of her colors are just scrumptious!!! Visit our Wollmeiseholics flickr group for pictures of yarn and finished projects.

Two winners will receive one skein each of Wollmeise worsted weight yarn. The Worsted weight is a 1ply 100% merino wool, handwash only. It is 200m/100g. It is very soft and has a slight twist and high tear resistance due to long fibres.

Thanks for playing! Your comment might get put “under moderation”, but rest assured, I will approve it and it will show up shortly (unless it is spam of course!)

1. I can’t name just one! Here are some blogs I read almost daily: http://www.camillaengman.com/, http://3191.visualblogging.com/, http://www.cuteoverload.com/ – enjoy!
2. For self-striping/patterning yarns I prefer plain vanilla sock pattern (yes I know I’m boring!), but I do like cables, too… And felting socks is great fun too! So here goes: Plain vanilla socks/Wollmeise, cables/Regia, felting/Fritidsgarn or “wool fluff”.
3. Wollmeise. No surprises here!

There are quite a few knitting blogs I really like to read:
For the best in sock-knitting with exciting patterns expertly executed, I choose Mustaa villaa. For the ultimate in yarn pron, there’s sock pr0n, with its big archives of a few years of sock yarn shopping. [Her knitting is just as good!] For down-to-earth knitting and great writing with excellent photography, I lean towards Knitting Phillistine. For a nice list of blogs to check out, see the sidebar on Criminy Jickets.

Favorite sock yarn? Hmm, that’s not easy. I love the colors at Wollmeise and Socks that Rock, but I use so many different ones it’s hard to choose just one. At present I’m using Ewa’s Sockewolle and really loving it!

My favorite brand of sock yarn is Lisa Souza’s Hardtwist.

1) My favorite blog for humor is Franklin’s http://the-panopticon.blogspot.com One of my favorite’s for socks is Sock Pr0n http://sockpr0n.blogspot.com
2) My favorite sock pattern is always the one I’m currently knitting. In this case, I am knitting my own pattern (and should have it on my blog soon) for the fourth time! I love it, but am also itching to try one of Cookie A’s designs.
3) I love German sock yarns. They hold up SO well!!! Regia, Opal, Meilenweit. Those are the only ones that we get (with regularity)in the states and I love them each. When I first started knitting I loved self-striping yarns, but now that I am knitting more patterns with “design” to them I’ve gained a whole new appreciation for solids and semi-solids.
Thanks for running the contest and HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!!

2. I just love knitting the JayWalker- and Broadripple-patterns using Wollmeise-yarn or Austermanstep with jojoba and aloe vera; I also enjoy knitting patterns from a book called “Omas Strickgeheimnisse”.

3. I really like the Wollmeise yarn brand.

Best greetings

It shows off both the yarn and it’s Nancy Bush – how can you go wrong!!! As far as yarn – so far I love Cherry Tree Hill supersock but have not tried Wollmeise!!!

1) I’ve been reading dooce’s blog for ahem … could it be four years already?! I recently discovered Cuteoverload.com and I han has cheezburger, which are both totally hilarious!

2) I’ve just completed a pair of socks using Trekking XXL and my own pattern, which I’m quite pleased with. I think it shows off the colors and structure of the yarn really well. I have to take pictures of the socks yet. Other than that, I usually knit plain stockinette socks. But if you’re looking for ideas, I totally love this and this yarn/pattern combo!

3) I only have knitting experience with Regia, Meilenweit, Trekking XXL and some no-name yarns :D. I acquired some Wollmeise yarn in the Veilchen colorway but gave it to my mother as a present on Easter :( Apart from Wollmeise I would love to try Sundara, Lorna’s Laces and Socks that Rock …

1. my fav knitting is millharrow.com, and I don’t have a non-knitting.

2. There’s a really basic pattern I found that I use all the time. I like fat fluffy socks for lounging. Just starting to get into socks and I am currently working on snicket socks by sabine (my sp9 pal).

3. Love Cherry Tree Hill.

1. I read perezhilton.com pretty regularly (can’t get enough of that smut gossip! LOL) and I also really like postsecret.blogspot.com .. sometimes very profound, sometimes funny, sometimes xrated, sometimes kid like, but almost always thought provoking.

2. I am just moving into knitting socks, so I don’t have any favorites yet!! I just bought my SP10 pal some Trekking Pro Natura that felt so nice (it had a bit of bamboo in it so I think that did the trick!)

3. I don’t know enough to have a favorite yet :) I have loved a lot of the colors I’ve seen in Socks That Rock and Cherry Tree Hill, but I’d think it would depend on what you’re making the socks for!

1. I’m always on the lookout for fun knitting blogs written by “regular people”. What’s your favorite non-knitting-celebrity blog?

Is this a non-celebrity knitter or a non-knitting celebrity? >;)
I’m terrible at making the rounds on “non-celeb” knit-blogs, so I’m usually just checking in on Grumperina, KnitAnon, and HelloYarn. I use LJ, so I do the blog reading all on the friends list for one-stop reading when I get to it. I’ve just been lurking around Flickr most of the time though. I check on Postsecret every week and stalk Destash.

2. I love sock knitting – what’s your favorite sock pattern/yarn combo?

I just love the Monkey socks by Cookie at knitty.com. I have made two pairs, and the Monkeys in the Wollmeise Sultan is my favorite, if you can’t tell in my Flickr. ;) I have knit extensively with Cherry Tree Hill and it is really luscious.

3. What is your favorite brand of sock yarn???

I am in love with Hello Yarn, but I keep collecting it and petting it and not knitting enough with it. I’ll need break into more skeins later on this month, I’m sure.

Happy birthday!

2. I love sock knitting – what’s your favorite sock pattern/yarn combo?

- Hmmmmmm….I don’t have a favourite pattern yet, since I haven’t knit that many socks. Although I guess you say that I like JayWalker and the Universal Toe-up Sock using Magic Cast-On.

3. What is your favorite brand of sock yarn???

- Regia or Wollmeise….although I’ve still two Jitterbugs here that I still have to test. I also quite like the Trekking pro Natura I’m test-knitting for Maschenkunst.

Hi Kris
Here goes:
I think some of my favourite non-knitting-celebrity blogs are written by people I have either sent gifts to or who have sent to me. Julie (I sent her a scarf for ISE3) writes a lovely blog, with great recipes:
http://stoneview.typepad.com/
and I love Saartje’s blog
http://www.saartjeknits.nl/
Is Lene a celebrity because her blog is beautiful:
http://www.lenealve.blogspot.com/
Non-knitting blogs I like are Posh Mum (snide school run mum – someimes funny) http://poshmum.blogspot.com/ and Vegan lunch box (when you have three packed lunches to make every day you need some inspiration!)
http://veganlunchbox.blogspot.com/

On the subject of sock knitting, I like Koigu and Fleece Artist together with wavy patterns, so some of my favourite patterns are Wendy’s feather and fan sock
http://wendyknits.net/knit/featherandfansock.pdf
and the razorshell sock by Miriam Felton
http://www.mimknits.com/downloads/razorshell.pdf
My secret pal this round also has a wavy sock pattern, Tropicana:
http://www.magknits.com/June06/patterns/tropicana.htm

As for favourite brands of sock yarn, I love Koigu and Fleece Artist, and also like Cherry Tree Hill and Lorna’s Laces. Socks that Rock is my favourite for admiring and stroking and looking at all the pretty colours! I have some Trekking to try as I have heard rave reviews from others about it and want to see if it lives up to them. Posh Yarn does beautiful yarn, although I don’t know how hard wearing it is, and Hello Yarn I am itching to try. I also love the Wollmeise yarn Sabine sent me and love Claudia’s Hand-painted yarns and Vesper yarns. There is so much choice out there on the Internet it is hard to pick just one!

Happy Birthday for the 23rd!

1. I subscribe to so many knitting blogs, so my favorites rotate. However, I really like this one: http://halfassedknitter.blogspot.com/index.html

She’s a local girl, although I have never met her, and she doesn’t post often, but she cracks me up nonetheless!

2. I love Fleece Artist, and my favorite socks I have made so far have been the Unst pattern from Knitting on the Road in Fleece Artist. they’re great socks!

3. Love Fleece Artist, Piece of Beauty, and all the usual suspects. I have lots of sock yarn in the stash that I haven’t used yet, so there are plenty I am looking forward to!

1. Currently I really like two norwegian knitting blogs
Bente B’s Blog and Hildes hekle-strikkeri-hurra!.
(Lucky for be both of them blog in English in addition to Norwegian.)
oh, and I also like PuNk rAwK pUrL

2. I’m a big fan of sock knitting as well, I just started knitting (socks) again in January. Of the ones I have finished since then I favor Lana Grossa Meilenweit Multiringel using a knitty pattern – a slightly modified (toe-up) Thuja.

3. I like Meilenweit and also Regia, but waiting for me as the next project is a skein of Socks That Rock yarn, it already feels and looks so nice, so I’m very curious how that will work out.

Happy Birthday!

I stumbled over here from your glorious yarn photos posted on Flickr. (They truly had me drooling!) So… here are my answers:

1. >> What’s your favorite non-knitting-celebrity blog?
I really like Two Left Needles (http://twoleftneedles.com/) – she’s a really down-to-earth person who writes quite eloquently, and her posts are always filled with lovely pictures of WIPs – dyeing, knitting, and spinning (all of which I very much enjoy, myself).

2. >> what’s your favorite sock pattern/yarn combo?
I’m not one who likes to follow patterns, generally speaking, so I usually come up with my own patterns, depending on my mood and what the yarn is begging to be knit up as. Lately I’ve been knitting up a lot of my own hand-dyed stuff, and that’s great fun, because the yarn starts calling to me from the very beginning of the dyeing process, and by the time it’s dry and wound up neatly into a cake, I’ve got the perfect idea of what kind of sock the yarn wants to be turned into!

3. >> What is your favorite brand of sock yarn???
Like I said, lately I’ve been knitting a lot of my own hand-dyed sock yarn (Ellie’s Ewe Hues – http://store.erdufylla.net), but as far as commercial yarns go, I love Koigu (who doesn’t?), Claudia Hand Paints, and Lorna’s Laces Shepherd Sock. I’d like to try the Trekking Pro Natura (it’s calling to me) and Jitterbug… And of course, the sock yarn you’ve posted pictures of is absolutely delicious – I would love to get my hands on some of that! :)

Thanks for posting all those lovely pictures. :)

Happy birthday!!

1. Same here, I’m also always on the lookout for good blogs by “people like us”! I really enjoy my Secret Pal’s blog as she writes very well and makes lovely things — but of course I can’t reveal the URL yet, haha :-) I always read Lolly and am amazed at the way she is such a wonderful facilitator of all kinds of social activity in the online knitting world. I also find that I most enjoy reading blogs by people I know or met in person, so I like to read blogs by my fellow Stitch ‘n Bitch members Storm op Zolder and Knitting Ajour. Berthi unfortunately only writes in Dutch, but her blog is very interesting as she does a lot of research on vintage and historical Dutch knitting patterns.

2. I only just got started knitting socks, but my most successful combo, until now, has been Jaywalkers with Trekking XXL in colorway 147. You can see a photo of one sock here.

3. I am totally, ultimately and irreversibly addicted to Zitron’s Trekking XXL. Three hurrays for Trekking XXL! (Of course, I haven’t tried Wollmeise yet… so I may still change my mind, haha!)

1. Two of my favourite knitting blogs are sock pr0n and Sugar Bunny Blvd
2. Oooh, that is hard. I like striping yarns knit up into Jaywalkers. Or feather and fan.
3. I’m not sure what my favourite brand is – I haven’t tried enough to certain! I like Lorna’s Laces, I like Vesper too. For sturdier yarn, I like Trekking.

Happy early Birthday wishes!!! :)

Hmmmm okay…
1. I really love reading blogs. I am at times a blurker. Ya know the ones who read and don’t ever comment. hehe. I’ve come to know some really great people via their blogs. Check them out: Twisted Knitter, Mixed up Beauty, and Pale-Autumn.

2. Sock knitting hmmm. This is my new obsession. I want all the yarn possible. Any brand I hear of or see all knit up an pretty, well if I see it somewhere, it’s going into the shopping basket. I can hardly knit pass stockinette but do plan to learn some pattern stitches by the end of the year.

3. Favorite sock yarn…please refer to #2, LOL. Didn’t I just say I want them all? I’m just gonna be a hoarder.

Okay, twist my arm to enter a contest… Happy birthday! :)

1. I really enjoy reading Bezzie’s blog: http://rkbezzie.blogspot.com – very entertaining, and some really brilliant ideas, too. Now if only she would post the recipe for the peanut butter brownie confections she has everyone drooling at…
2. I have a confession to make. The only sock yarn I have ever used is from Wolle Roedel – of the 4-ply, mini-ringel variety. I’m a new sock knitter! And as for patterns, well, my current favorite is the Jaywalker. The different colors of the Wolle Roedel yarn work really well with it, I think. But I don’t really have that much room to talk about yarns and patterns!
3. See above :)

Now to start reading all the other blogs that people have recommended! Thanks!

What does bockstark mean (pronounced bok-shtark)? My crazy German friend, Matthias, made that word up to mean "really cool" and says that it is catching on in Garmisch. So I am helping him popularize the word! I thought if I ever opened a yarn store, I would call it "Bockstark Yarns". This blog is all about my projects, yarns and crazy ideas related to knitting and other crafts. Contact me at bockstark.knits(at)gmail(dot)com.
